For those who dare to install a alpha version of Windows Vista Service Pack 2 here is the code to add to a .Bat file to enable the update. Bat File: @echo off reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\VistaSp2 /f > NUL 2>&1 reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\VistaSP2 /f > NUL 2>&1 reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\VistaSp2 /v Beta1 /t REG_SZ /d C21A5C64-2530-CC19-042F-9ABDB4ED27F9 /f IF NOT %errorlevel% == 0 (...

Ok today only get your serial and software free. Thanks Download Squad. CrossOver is the commercial version of WINE, a tool that allows users to run many Windows applications on Mac or Linux machines. And today, you can download it for free. You see, earlier this year the CEO of CodeWeavers, the company behind CrossOver issued a challenge to president George W. Bush. If the outgoing president of the US could accomplish one of a handful of goals before leaving office, the company would give away free licenses for all of its software (with a limit of...

Before you get your pitchfork and torch to go raid Qwest headquarters have a listen to my account of dealing with mine, yours and everyone’s favorite DSL provider at least here in the northwest. Around 3 weeks ago on a very rainy Saturday I walked into a T-Mobile store(yes you can make fun of me) to get the latest greatest VOIP idea since well VOIP(yes there is more services out there. Stay with me on this.) I received a @home router much like my friend...

Ah 2 weeks of no Mikes Links Monday. Wow I missed allot of stuff. Have lots of links so I need to add half now half next week I think. Halloween and all is spooky. Microsoft has announced a lot of new and exciting Operating System as well as Developer tools(Visual Studio 2010). So lets start with Windows Azure the official Cloud OS. Microsoft also announced .NET4.0 as well as well like I said Visual Studio 2010 and I am just getting used to 2008. Oh and lets not forget the announcement of windows 7 covered here...

USB Sticks cannot contain multiple partitions by default. It is however possible to create multiple partitions on an USB stick by modifying and installing a new driver which disguises the USB stick as a USB hard drive. It is highly recommended to backup all data on the USB stick before continuing. Users who want to create multiple partitions need a file called Hitachi Microdrive which contains the new driver that we are going to modify first and install afterwards. Unpack the package to a...

Windows 7 is officially called: Windows 7 Microsoft has been pretty tight on leaks up to now so we haven’t had a great deal of information about the upcoming OS, however here are some of the features which you will see introduced with Windows 7: Evolutionary changes. This means substantial performance improvements, UI changes and security improvements. Windows 7 basically will improve on all of Windows Vista’s real and perceived shortcomings. Virtual Drives ...

Web masters (windows IIS web masters) be ready here comes the new latest and suite from Microsoft. The Microsoft Web Platform Installer lets you create a Web platform on your server. The Microsoft Web Platform is a reliable, high-performance Web stack that is capable of hosting both ASP.NET and PHP applications on a single server, and can scale to run the largest sites on the Web. What is the Microsoft Web Platform? The "Microsoft Web Platform" is...

SUBST is a great DOS command that allows you to map a local path to a drive letter. For example, wouldn’t it be easier to access you GAC folder by specifying G: instead of C:\windows\assembly? The SUBST command is very easy to use. Simply open up a command prompt window and type: “SUBST G: C:\windows\assembly” Now when you go to Windows Explorer or My Computer you will see a new drive with a label of G: Open the drive and you are...

I typically don’t write articles about Windows Vista Gadgets. Personally I think most are a complete waste of space.  However being a geek that loves to find cool little Utilities to do mundane things I can typically do with Dos prompt I found this little Vista gadget. This gadget allows you to drag any drive that Windows can see and it indexes all the files and folders on said drive then it displays the storage hogs and locations. This is a full blown Visual XPath Interpreter for the evaluation of any XPath expression and visual presentation of the resulting nodeset or scalar value. The XPath Visualiser's value as an XSLT and XPath learning and authoring tool results from its ability to present the...

So surfing around the web I found this great link for a signed Windows XP/2003 theme. Last one I can remember was the Zune Theme. Enjoy! Ah yes trying not to watch the stock market get flushed down the toilet last week.  As well as this week. As Joe Levi  talked about how when the down dipped below 10,000 jobs started being cut. Ah doom and gloom.   My mind is pretty pre-occupied by some serious Commerce Server coding I as well as the team has been doing. Hence the reason for a very late Mikes Links Monday Post. So many things to talk about yet...

If you are like me (there is a loaded statement) you like to have full control over your own computer right? Well since Microsoft got rocked in security after security hole. Getting root or administrator access was what all hackers, crackers and script kiddies need to do malicious things to all Windows environments. Windows Vista comes along and tries to change all the security ideals and tries hard to be like Linux or Mac which would make most security fiends happy right? Well yes they are happier yet...

As you all know I love the Windows Mobile experience. Truth be told I am still waiting on apple to send me the iPhone(generation any). I also love my Zune not so much the software but the actual hardware. I know your thinking your a Microsoft only geek aren’t you? No I own a Ipod and refer to myself as a ALT.NET type of individual. Back to the matter at hand. The rumor is Zune Phone. So the announcement was made about...

I have been trying to sound right about different events in history lately. So I found these sites that are as close to fact as I can find. FactCheck.org - powered by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, this site is nonpartisan, nonprofit, and aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics. It accepts no funding from corporations, unions, political parties, lobbying organizations or individuals. Politifact.com - has a neat "Truth-O-Meter"...

Looks like Microsoft announced all the MVP’s today. Once again I am not a MVP. <This was a totally worthless post please be advised> Why did I post this. Well its a reminder that I am not a Microsoft MVP and to highlight my need to either work harder to achieve that status or start writing more open source apps. </This was a totally worthless post please be advised>     Flickr Tags: NonMVP, Please Microsoft give me the...
